The Upsides Of Being An Early Bird

So, you’re an early bird, huh? Although the chances of finding people who like waking up early are few and far between, you’re not alone. In fact, with so many benefits to rising with the sun, it’s really no wonder why so many men and women today are trying to transition themselves into morning people. Yup—you read that right! There are all kinds of benefits to waking up early. Keep reading to learn more about the many reasons why waking up early can be a good thing (even for those of you who don’t like mornings). If you’re naturally an early bird, you may not have ever considered the benefits listed below as “benefits.” If that’s the case, we empower you to take advantage of your morning-person super powers and let the following list inspire you to get the most out of your mornings.

Enjoy Sunrise
A major event missed by those who sleep in is the sunrise. It may seem simple—it happens every day, right? If you sleep in every day, though, you never really get the chance to see the beautiful show put on by mother nature. There are a few different ways that you can use the moments of the sunrise to set yourself up for a great day ahead; Some people use the time to pray or recite positive affirmations. If that’s not your thing you can sip coffee while you watch, or even just enjoy the simplicity of nature’s show.

Greater Productivity
A huge benefit to waking up early is having a leg up on the competition. While others sleep, you can begin your day. That said, it doesn’t necessarily mean that early risers wake up and get right to work. In fact, they may take longer to get ready than those who wake up at an average time, but by the time they start work, many people are just stepping out of bed. Waking up even an hour or two earlier will make a major difference in your productivity—even if it is a difficult habit to get into.

Many early risers’ wake up an hour early for the sole purpose of working out. While this may seem like a terrible idea to those of you who like to hit the snooze button, just think of how good it would feel to get that task out of the way before anything else. Not to mention, many people leave a workout feeling strong and powerful—wouldn’t that be an amazing feeling to start the day with?

Better Nutrition
Naturally, with extra time in the morning, you’ll be more likely to make a healthier breakfast, rather than just grabbing the quickest option on your way out the door. Even if you’re not one to make a plate of eggs and bacon, having all that extra time will allow you to think about your breakfast selection. Rather than reaching for a sugar filled granola bar you may opt for some fruit.

Quality Sleep
It might sound silly at first—the idea that you’ll get better sleep by waking up early—but it’s all about the sleep-wake balance. By rising and starting your day earlier, you’re exerting energy earlier. Ultimately, you’ll be tired earlier and go to bed at a reasonable time, which—by the way—will eventually make it easier to wake up in the morning. You may think that by going to bed earlier you’ll be less likely to get as much done in a day, but remember, you’re waking up earlier, too.

Some people I know are like this but I do not think it is for everyone. I have tried being an early bird and so have some of my friends but we seem to function better staying up later and sleeping in.

I always felt I did my best work late at night. While that was actually true of schoolwork (every test I studied for late or paper I stayed up late working on got great grades), I’m finding I’m just not as productive late in the day as I’ve grown older. I really need to start getting to bed early so I can be up early. Get the dogs walked and things done before I get into the daily grind.

I used to be the WORST morning person in the world! I did not like to get up before noon or noonish! Then I met my husband. He is one of the happiest people I have ever met. At first, it was a little annoying at how early he used to get up. But then, I started getting up with him, and it became our “thing.” We would get up about 2 hours before he had to go to work. I would make us breakfast and coffee, and we would save a show to watch in the morning. Now, it’s my favorite part of the day! I am able to get SO MUCH MORE done by getting up early! I do my daily workouts when he leaves for work, so I am already through with my cardio before noon! I love it! I no longer dread having to work out because I LOVE it now! Working out early gives me all day energy and burns calories all day, too! I wish I would have become a morning person years ago! We still sleep in on the weekends, but that’s our other special “thing.” And sometimes, we don’t even get out of bed!

It’s a slow adjustment but definitely aiming to be more of an early bird than a night owl.

I agree to all these things. I’ve always been an early bird, and never could adapt the times that I needed to have a later schedule. I’m always raring to go, and get a start on the new day.

A few years ago, I had a job with a shift that started very early in the morning. It took a lot of getting used to, but I eventually grew to like it a lot. It gave me more time during the day to run errands and schedule appointments.

All of the above benefited me. I alway felt more refreshed & focused at work when i had a routine that encompassed eating well, set bedtime & wake + exercise. The first couple of weeks adjusting were the hardest, but definitely paid off once I settled into the routine.

I definitely agree that you can get a lot done when you wake up early! I have been cursed with being a night owl however, so I don’t get up early often.

I am the ultimate early bird, in a mom sense. I have 3 girls and if i don’t get up at the crack of dawn to get ready for the day, including activities, sports, dance, laundry etc,. I would be a hot mess!

Being an early bird I do get to enjoy the sun rising while I sip my first cup of coffee. This allows me to start my day very calm and plan the next 12 hours!

OMG so me!! For me 40+ years of getting up at 5 am to be at work around 7. I like a relaxed started to my day a cup of tea, maybe a short walk or just sitting on the porch. Today I am retired but my eyes still open between 5 and 5:30 ever day. Up and about while so many are still sleeping.

I never was an early bird. Until I had my son. I always stay up later than him and now I wake up earlier (don’t get much sleep but get more done)
