Moisturizing the skin is one of the most important parts of a basic skin care regime and what could be better than using simple yet great home remedies which moisturize the skin naturally and make it smoother and nourished than before. Start your day with one of these skin moisturizing home remedies.

  • Buttermilk – Buttermilk is rich in lactic acid which is a type of hydroxyl acid. Alpha and beta-hydroxy acids are commonly found in moisturizing creams and lotions and what would be better than using its natural and inexpensive form in the comfort of your home? This ingredient exfoliates the skin, gets rid of dry and dead skin cells and gives way to younger, moister and fresher looking skin in no time. Simply take a face cloth and wet with cold buttermilk. Apply on irritated or dry skin for a few minutes. Remove cloth when done and rinse off gently.
  • Shea Butter – Shea butter is obtained from the nuts inside the shea tree fruits and is only found in Africa. It is quite rich in Vitamin A and helps to reduce dryness in skin, ease eczema and cure sunburn and all types of insect bites. It is also rich in Vitamin F which contains fatty acids that make the skin look young and aid in regular cell growth. Buy shea butters which have been recently manufactured as they will be quite rich in cinnamic acid. Take some shea butter in your hands, rub and apply on the skin generously.
  • Olive oil – Along with all the amazing health benefits that this oil has to offer, it is also great for the skin and helps to deep moisturize it. Linoleic acid is abundantly present in this oil and helps the skin to retain the moisture and become soft to touch. You can either add a little bit of the oil to your bath water or dab some of the oil on a cotton ball and then onto dry skin.
  • Avocados – Avocados work as an emollient and help to lubricate the skin’s outer layers. It also gets soaked into the deep layers of our skin and allows its goodness to seep within. Being rich in Vitamins A, D and E, it reduces wrinkles and fine lines and moisturizes the skin. Take a ripe avocado, mash it really well and apply on dry skin. Rinse off with cool water after 10 minutes.
  • Honey – Honey is a natural humectants which makes it capable to draw molecules of water from the air and into your skin so as to keep it enriched with moisture. It is also known for its anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties. Mix 2 tablespoons of honey in 8 tablespoons of water and apply to skin. Rinse off after 15 minutes.
