5 Different Home Remedies for Pigmentation

Pigmentation is often the cause of sun exposure or various kinds of allergy while hereditary too can play a big role in causing skin pigmentation. Pigmentation can occur in different parts of the body, but the face is most commonly affected.  In scientific terms, pigmentations occurs due to the deposit of melanin, that is produced by cells known as melanocytes and affects the coloring of the skin, hair and even the retina of the eye.

Potatoes

Potatoes help reduce skin pigmentation problems such as dark circles, hyper and hypo pigmentation and melasma. It lightens the skin tone when regularly applied . Take a medium sized potato and slit from the middle. Put some drops of water on the potato’s surface and rub it on the pigmented area. This will make the potato’s juice come out of the vegetable and come in contact with the skin to reduce pigmentation. You can also grate a potato and apply the juice directly on the skin to reap its benefits.

Cucumber and Lemon

Cucumber and lemon are two skin lightening agents when put together can be extremely beneficial in reducing pigmentation. Cucumber is also a soothing agent while lemons are known for their skin lightening property. They need to be applied every day to see visible results in a few weeks time. Grate a cucumber and add the juice of a lemon to it. Mix well and apply on the affected area. Let it rest for 15 to 20 minutes and then rinse off with cool water. Apply twice daily.

Almonds and Milk

When the skin becomes too dry, it too can result in pigmentation. Such problems can be cured by taking care of the dryness in the skin and using almonds and milk as a home remedy for pigmentation. Natural fatty acids can be found in almond that nourish the skin from within and also moisturize it, thereby reducing pigmentation. Milk too is a natural moisturizer and combats skin dryness. Soak ten almonds in the water overnight, peel skin in the morning and churn in the mixer with half a glass of milk. Apply the paste on pigmented areas every day for at least 6 to 8 weeks.

Banana and Guava

Guavas contain lycopene that is great for treating dark skin. Bananas, on the other hand, can exfoliate the skin and reduce pigmentation. Take equal portions of banana and guava pulp and mix well. Apply on the affected area and wash off with cool water after 20 minutes.

Papaya

Papaya contains an enzyme named papain and is great or skin exfoliation. Every time you apply raw papaya to your skin, it enhances the process of regeneration of new skin cells and removes pigmented skin. With regular use, the pigmentation vanishes completely, and new fresh skin reaches the surface. Grate a papaya or simply squeeze and crush it to get its juice. Apply on pigmented area for a month.
