8 Advantages of Using Aloe Vera on Your Skin

In today’s beauty-conscious world, more and more people are going organic instead of the other way around because there’s nothing better for your skin than natural plants, which are known and used by many for ages.

One such plant is the aloe vera. Here’s the thing—aloe vera has long been an important ingredient that helps heal and moisturize the skin. You can enjoy a lot of health benefits, and it is also great for the hair!

This succulent is perfect for any skin types:

  • normal,
  • dry,
  • oily, or
  • a combination of dry and oily.

However, it will be particularly helpful for those dealing with different skin problems such as:

  • dry,
  • broken,
  • sensitive,
  • damaged, or
  • irritated skin.

You can easily plant it in your backyard, too, which makes it a pleasant addition for the home.

The Miracle Plant From Ancient Times

The ancient Egyptians have long used aloe vera or, as they called it, the “plant of immortality” for its many health benefits. The earliest known use dates back 6,000 years ago, and it was greatly treasured because it possessed the secret and magic to beauty, health, and immortality.

Aloe vera plant

Egyptians used it in their beauty and health routines to keep their skin youthful and glowing. They even used it on the deceased. It has anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties which could stop the physical decomposition process of a dead person. As the Egyptians believed, a perfectly preserved body is key to eternal life.

While there were no doctors with the advanced details of the components of the plant, now we know for sure that it has more than 200 bioactive compounds and other nutrients (enzymes, minerals, amino acids, vitamins, polysaccharides, iron, copper, magnesium, potassium).  It has been used to treat different conditions for millennia—from acne to burns, dermatitis, asthma, and even leprosy.

In today’s age, it’s widely known as a beauty staple every woman must have. But there are more advantages to it.

It Heals Cuts and Wounds Fast

Aloe vera gel is a quick and effective fix for when you accidentally cut your hand with a knife or scratch your legs after falling off a bike. The plant contains polysaccharide fibers which can easily seal wounds, no matter how deep. It also has natural cooling properties to soothe you from the pain of your injury. Clean your cut or wound with a warm cloth and water before applying the aloe vera.

Make sure that the gel covers the wound entirely (don’t mind the sting!) so that it can heal faster. When the gel dries up, you may clean the wound with a damp towel, before sealing it up with a bandage and letting it heal naturally.

This plant works wonders. You’ll be surprised to see the following day that the wound is about to, if it hasn’t already, disappeared! The aloe vera is a natural astringent so it can help with the blood coagulation (when you cut yourself) that does not require immediate or serious medical attention.

Aloe vera is indeed a great wound-healing and cleansing plant!

It Acts as a Moisturizer

The aloe vera isn’t called a “moisturizing wonder plant” for nothing. The gel of the aloe vera is a great moisturizer due to the high content of moisture in it. But aside from that, its natural components are known to be helpful ingredients in producing a youthful and beautiful skin. These components include:

  • amino acids,
  • magnesium,
  • calcium,
  • enzymes,
  • sodium,
  • polysaccharides, and more.

If you apply the aloe vera gel on your face or body, your skin will be hydrated from within and increase its elasticity. The gel penetrates quickly and deeply. There is no need for a month’s or a year’s worth of waiting to see results. Many beauty enthusiasts use this technique to reduce the visible effects of aging such as skin dryness. But it’s also proven to moisturize perfectly even for anyone with oily skin.

You can create your own DIY aloe vera face moisturizer by combining:

  • one-third cup aloe vera gel,
  • half tablespoon of argan oil,
  • seven drops of tea tree essential oil, and
  • seven drops of rose essential oil.

Mix these ingredients until it becomes creamy. Apply to your face daily and store in a container. Make sure you apply it after you’ve cleansed. They say one should use it for about three to four weeks for best results!

It Treats Sunburns

What happens if you’re at the beach and you stay out too long for your tan and end up getting a serious case of sunburn? Well, if you have an aloe vera plant nearby, that won’t be a problem.

Sunburn occurs when you get direct exposure to the harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays of the sun and damage your skin. It causes redness to the skin because the outermost layer is “heated.” Sunburn is extremely painful and sensitive to touch. The period of discomfort may vary depending on how bad the sunburn is. You may experience flaking, itching, and even peeling of the skin.

The aloe vera plant has a powerful healing ability that helps with sunburn. This plant provides:

  • soothing relief,
  • hydrate the moisture-depleted skin,
  • minimize inflammation, and
  • aid for skin growth and repair.

With its nutritional qualities and antioxidant properties, it will become an extra protective layer on the skin and replenish the moisture. Reducing the redness of the sunburn may take a while, but it will surely eliminate the pain from the burn quickly.

It Erases Stretch Marks

…Or at least, it lessens the visibility. Stretch marks are completely normal. Most women have it! But while it’s a good reminder to love your body the way it is, there’s this inner desire to erase it from your body or prevent more from appearing!

Stretch marks are a kind of scarring that occurs when the skin stretches beyond its capacity. In most cases, it crops up because of pregnancy, excess weight loss (and sometimes even weight gain), and overuse of certain medications. The skin is stretched too thin and starts to behave like a rubber band: just stretching and breaking when pulled too far.

You can count on aloe vera and its variety of nutrients to help in the sustenance of skin tissues and eliminate stretch marks! Simply cut open an aloe vera plant before extracting the gel and massaging it onto the part of your body with stretch marks.

Remember, the key is to act fast!

If you see a stretch mark, treat it with aloe vera right away! The faster you act, the higher the odds you’ll get rid of it easily and prevent it from happening again.

It Cures Acne

Forget about fancy skin care products that don’t work. Turn to the useful home remedy, aloe vera, instead! Acne or pimples are bacteria, and you may want to get rid of it fast by treating it with the antibacterial properties of aloe vera gel.

Aloe vera contains auxin and gibberellins, which are hormones that help heal wounds and reduce skin inflammation. It helps with a chronic skin problem such as acne. It has been proven to remove acne (and acne scars) and make the skin look flawless. You will also appreciate that it’s not just used to cure acne; it also:

  • promotes skin regeneration,
  • invigorates the skin, and
  • lightens the skin pigmentation.

Get rid of your acne by getting an aloe vera and applying it generously to your face. You may use a cleanser before doing the aloe vera beauty routine, but you may also opt not to. Concentrate on the acne, rub and massage carefully, and wash off the remaining aloe vera gel. Some people don’t wash it off right away and delay it in the morning. It’s your call: whichever is great.

It Heals Skin Problems

Not all skin types are similar or normal. Many people suffer from different skin diseases such as psoriasis, itchy skin, or eczema. Having a disease makes one feel uncomfortable or upset. So if there’s a safe and effective cure which they could use, they would grab the opportunity.

If you are or if you know someone is suffering from a skin problem, you should remind them about aloe vera. The plant contains anti-allergic properties and cures bug bites, blisters, and other similar allergic reactions. Some people who regularly experience psoriasis flare up on their skin use aloe vera for it to subside because it acts as a lubricating agent that represses the flares while keeping the skin hydrated.

A topical cream that contains 0.5% aloe can reduce the skin “plaques” associated with psoriasis. Imagine if you are using the actual plant. It will be much more helpful and will eliminate the bacteria and fungi.

It Offers Anti-Aging Properties

Vitamin C helps produce collagen, which is the basic structural component of the skin and is known to boost anti-aging efforts. Aloe vera helps to keep the skin healthy for a long time as it gives sufficient collagen. It makes the skin firmer and more radiant. Vitamins C and E, along with the beta-carotene in the aloe vera, reduce fine lines and wrinkles and make your skin youthful.

If you apply the gel to your skin regularly, you will begin to see that it will sag, wrinkle, and age a lot slower! When used topically, it can repair skin damage (burns, scars, wounds). When taken internally, it helps rebuild collagen. At the DNA level, it can prevent collagen breakdown. Simply put, it is the ultimate anti-aging plant! It’s practically 96% water, but it also has over 200 healing phytonutrients.

It Lightens the Skin

Many people have attested to getting clearer and lighter skin upon using aloe vera gel. It won’t change the skin color, but it will make it fairer and more radiant. Thanks to the plant’s anti-inflammatory properties, the spots and blemishes are reduced, and the skin tone is smoothened and lightened.

The components in the aloe vera gel are effective for reducing hyperpigmentation and skin discolorations. It is a skin-safe solution that will work wonders for any skin type. While there are two ways to use the plant (digest/drink or apply) to lighten the skin, people looking to use this plant should use it as a topical cream. There are undiscovered side effects when ingested.

Say goodbye to dark spots and dead skin cells by applying aloe vera gel three times a week every night. You may grow some more of it, but it will regenerate soon and will help you achieve the best skin you’d want to be in.

You should not dismiss aloe vera as a simple plant. Early civilizations treasured it for its benefits, and it still proves itself useful in today’s age.

Aloe vera is indeed an all-around treatment for your skin. It can make your skin glow. It can keep your skin healthy. It can save your skin from having blemishes. It can heal your skin’s wounds. It alleviates chronic skin diseases such as psoriasis and eczema. It can serve a lot of functions and do so much more.

Going for organic remedies is an effective tool, so switch to using aloe vera on your skin now!
